Minnewaska… One of the best days I’ve had. Aaaand, that’s Ryan.
Human beings are so unbelievably complex that no one, not one person, will ever be able to fully understand every intricacy of a being, their motivations for actions or their reasoning behind their beliefs. The lifestyle into which a person is born completely dictates what kind of character they’ll end up as in the end. It’s what makes the world great, when you think about it… I mean, where would society be if every single person had the same goals, aspirations, interests and morals? And how would we recognize and appreciate those with good intentions if we were lacking any truly evil people?
The funny thing is though, that although we have evolved to the point where the whole understanding of even one person is unfathomable, we are so similar and simple in almost every way. Human nature is responsible for this, bringing the world together under the want for acceptance, the need to belong and relate to others. Everyone is a sheep whether they are willing to accept it or not. Conformists and non-conformists alike, there is no way to escape your inevitable way of being, your innate and instinctual feelings. Everyone is primal in a way, experiencing feelings of elation, jealousy, anger to the point of wanting to cause pain, territoriality. Saying that you are above these common characteristics is a blatant lie, a somewhat pathetic one at that because in the end, who really cares? We’re all complex organisms living on a giant rock, with societies that we developed, utilizing things that we created over thousands of years. You will live, have experiences, and die. And in the long run, after your friends, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren pass away as well, there will be no one left to remember your existence. As morbid and depressing as that sounds, it’s a fact not left up for debate. One great achievement will affect the world for how long? 50 years? 100? 200-300 at most? Then what? Your life that seemed so important, the center of your universe for the 77 years you lived, is over and forgotten.
The most we can do is to slow down. Our society is filled with looking towards the future, with no room for enjoying the present. Christmas decorations are up for sale before Halloween passes, preparations for college are pressed on kids right after the eighth grade. What is that teaching us? We only have so long. Instead of looking forward to the weekend or the next holiday or the upcoming season, we should appreciate what we’re surrounded with currently. The things that mean the world to us that could be gone in the blink of an eye.
I just think humans are funny creatures. We’re so advanced in every way, developing far past what the first signs of slowly developing primates could even comprehend at the beginning of time, and yet we’re so close-minded and self-centered in many respects. Don’t get me wrong, I’m one of them, a sheep, but at least I’m aware that in the grand scheme of things, I’m just like every other person living on this planet. Containing only slight, varying, physical and internal features that make me differ even slightly from a Native African man who lived in the 1780’s.
I don’t know, I suppose this was somewhat morbid, but I hope not pretentious or condescending towards anyone. Human behavior is so ironic

To finish all of my homework before I fall fast asleep. Hopefully my large bowl of highly-caffeinated tea will aid me in completing this.
